Ayurvedic Routines To Manage Seasonal Changes
The five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space, make up everything inside us and around us. Further, the combination of these elements results in the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The body type of a person depends on the dominant dosha present in their body. Since the human body and nature are in sync, during seasonal changes, your bodies change too. However, following an ayurvedic seasonal routine helps you to manage seasonal changes in your body. Besides, most Kerala ayurvedic retreats provide treatments to rejuvenate your body by primarily balancing your dosha imbalances.
Ayurveda recommends following a daily routine to maintain proper health. It includes daily bowel movements, brushing, tongue scraping, bathing, regular eating and sleeping habits, and so on. Incorporating an ayurvedic lifestyle in your life makes it easier to stick to an ayurvedic routine. Now let us get to know how to manage seasonal changes the ayurvedic way.
Winter Season
The qualities of winter are as same as the Kapha and Vata doshas. During this time of hibernation and restoration, physically you may experience dry or oily skin, and mentally you may have racing or slow thoughts based on your dosha type. Whatever the trouble, you can balance it by looking at the opposite quality. For instance, dry skin can be managed by doing abhyanga and adding particular oils to your diet. Moreover, abhyanga can be beneficial for oily skin as well, given that you use a natural bristle brush instead of oil for the massage.
Spring Season
With spring, Kapha becomes the predominant dosha in your body. Kapha gets accumulated during winter and can cause health issues when spring arrives. An imbalance in Kapha makes the mind dull and the body lazy. Besides, it also results in excess mucus and congestion. Ayurveda prescribes a routine that lightens you physically, mentally, and emotionally during spring. For example, include lighter foods in your diet and practise pranayama as well as asanas. To put it simply, if you feel heavy, do things that help you lighten up.
Summer Season
Summer is a Pitta dominant season, and you may exhibit characteristics like hotness, sharpness, and lightness. Also, you may be vulnerable to skin rashes, agitation, and feel ungrounded. And to restore Pitta imbalances, just like other routines mentioned above, you have to consider the opposite qualities. Eating a Pitta pacifying diet and drinking herbal teas that aids in cooling is recommended. You may have to reduce alcohol and caffeine intake as well. If you want to feel more grounded, practising yoga should be enough.
Fall Season
Vata dominates during the fall season. Though it shows light qualities like Pitta, it is distinguished by dry and cold characteristics instead of being oily and hot. Insomnia can be a sign of an imbalance, and it can be corrected by sticking to regular sleeping habits. To ground yourself, cook and consume fresh foods. Besides, it is advised to avoid raw and frozen foods. Dryness and constipation too can occur, which can be managed by including healthy fats in your diet.
