In Ayurveda, Bloodletting is called Rakthamokshana and it’s stated in the books of Ayurveda that blood can carry vitiated doshas to other parts of the body, thus inciting diseases. Bloodletting by Leeches, Prachana karma (Piercing and releasing impure blood) and Sira Vyadha (Venesection) are the bloodletting techniques practised in Ayurveda.
